Man from the North

Richard Larch, a young man from the north of England, arrives in London to seek his fortune. By day he works as a clerk in an office but has aspirations of becoming a writer. He also yearns to find a suitable wife. The story follows him as he tries to achieve both ambitions. The book is Bennett’s first and is partly autobiographical. (Summary by Simon Evers)
